Melbourne's newest cancer treatment centre opened in Morrabbin this month. According to Dr Kuntz, families are prioritising their pets' health more than ever. Pascoe Vale local Maddy, a 15 year old blue healer, is testament to this - her owner has spent $24,500 to get Maddy back on her feet.

Is your pet left or right pawed? Researchers claim that we can make a good guess based simply on whether he/she is male or female. Are they right? Complete our survey (left column). Test your cat as follows: Put a small piece of tuna inside a narrow-mouthed jar and see which paw your cat uses to extract it. Cats are more likely to show a preference with a complex task than while just playing.

What will they think of next? Japanese inventers have come up with the "Bowlingual Voice", a talking gadget that analyses the acoustics of a dog's bark and translates the findings into human words.
